Local government is vital to thriving communities, employing 50,000 people, spending $6.5 billion on service delivery and $2 billion on infrastructure annually, as well as managing more than $70 billion in public assets.

The Fair Go Rates system will cap council rate rises to the rate of inflation, 2.5 per cent, for 2016-17.
